Hot chocolate was one of the things I most missed when I had to change my diet. When I was feeling cold and tired (which happened a lot with undiagnosed hypothyroidism!), I would reach for my comforting, milky, sugar-and-caffeine laden beverage to keep me going. Not a healthy thing to do to my body!
So now when I crave hot chocolate I reach for this – a natural plant based milk, no sweetener, and raw organic cacao powder. And though I cannot in all good conscience call this truly ‘healthy’, I do know for sure that it is at least healthiER!

Ingredients
- 1 mug coconut and rice milk I buy Plenish coconut milk as there are no nasty fillers and the rice in it makes it taste naturally sweet which I love
- 1 to 2 tsp cacao powder raw and organic, mmmmm!

Instructions
- Whisk the cacao powder into a small amount of your milk to form a paste, then add more milk to fill your mug and stir.
- Pour into a saucepan and heat gently on the hob, or microwave it in your mug (make sure the mug's microwave safe first!) to your desired temperature.
- Cosy up on the sofa under a snuggly blanket and enjoy every last sip. Preferably while reading 'Anne of Windy Willows' or some other idyllic book (all optional but very beneficial!).
